So I have tried this out a couple of times now. I first used clear with a little white and crumpled the foil into icicle sort of shape. It came out pretty neat. I did melt longer than the 15 minutes listed in the article, but I do not know how much longer. The beads on the bottom and sides melt smooth and match the foil exactly. The beads on the top retain a bead-like shape and are bumpy. I would guess that if I added a foil top with some simple weight that might change.
the next experiment was to create large chunks for props of a random material our of clear red. Also came out very nice. Both times i will have to do a bit of clipping with some sharp points on top, but otherwise they came out great.
I want to try some of the metallic beads to see how well they retain their metallic finish, but I will have to wait on that.
